Dr. Alvarez-Casas serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery & Surgical Director of Organ Procurement at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In addition to Liver, Kidney, and pancreas transplantation, his clinical interests also include minimally invasive single-port Living Kidney Donation and reducing Hispanic/Latino disparities in Transplantation.
His current research interests include exploring the potential of normothermic Ex-Vivo liver perfusion to improve outcomes and organ acceptance, Donor after Cardiac Death organ utilization, and warm ischemic time interpretation and correlation with transplant outcomes.
In addition to English, Dr. Alvarez-Casas speaks Spanish, Italian, and French.
