Get to know Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Juanita Mora, who serves patients in Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Mora is a board-certified allergist and immunologist with a strong interest in asthma, food allergies, drug allergies, atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and workup of primary immune deficiencies. In 2014, she opened up her own practice, Chicago Allergy Center, and works with a very diverse community in Chicago, Illinois.
“We are a comprehensive clinic that specializes in the care of the entire family. We welcome difficult cases as our goal is for our patients to be well managed. We join the asthma task force in trying to get asthma better controlled in our pediatric and adult patients in the city of Chicago. We are also partners in the management of food allergy in making it as safe as an environment as we can for our children in the public and school setting. We also aim to decrease the social stigma associated with food allergy and asthma that has most recently led to bullying in the school setting. We want to take care of our patients in all aspects- physically, environmentally and emotionally.” as stated on the practice’s website.
Born and raised in Chicago, Dr. Mora is the first of five children born to immigrant Mexican parents. She expressed an interest in preventative care and medicine from an early age and really enjoys reaching out and mentoring in the underserved communities of Chicago.
All of her education was completed in Chicago, including her undergraduate degree in Chemistry at The College at the University of Chicago, her medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, as well as her combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at Rush University Medical Center. Wanting to further her education, she went on to do subspecialty training in allergy and immunology and completed her fellowship at Rush University Medical Center. Throughout her fellowship, she also completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Research.
The doctor maintains her ties in academic medicine as an attending at Illinois Masonic Medical Center. She loves teaching medical students, residents, and fellows and can often be found as an expert voice at medicine or pediatric morning report conferences.
What’s more, she is a clinic partner with the American Lung Association in Chicago. Her main responsibilities as a clinic partner include referring pediatric patients for in-home allergen assessments, reviewing goals and objectives regarding the treatment of pediatric asthma patients, as well as conducting a team-building approach toward the management of pediatric asthma patients.
Allergy and immunology involve the management of disorders related to the immune system. These conditions range from the very common to the very rare, spanning all ages and encompassing various organ systems. An allergist and immunologist is a physician specially trained to diagnose, treat, and manage allergies, asthma, and immunologic disorders, including primary immunodeficiency disorders.
With a strong passion for her profession, Dr. Mora volunteers her time going out into the Latino community and giving empowering talks to underserved high school students about pursuing their dreams. She also enjoys teaching parents and kids about asthma and food allergies. She serves as a board member for The Asthma Workforce as part of the Illinois Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
To honor her extensive career accomplishments, she has earned several awards, including Aesculapius Teaching Fellow of the Year Award presented by Rush University Medical School, and Feinberg Research Award presented by the Illinois Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology.
