Dr. Champine is a radiologist whose clinical interests include genitourinary radiology, contrast media, and information technology. She is currently serving as a Professor of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. UT Southwestern has been named the No. 1 Best Hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth by U.S. News & World Report. It is one of the largest medical schools in the country, annually training about 3,700 medical, graduate, and health professions students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows. Its three-part mission is to educate leaders in patient care, biomedical science, and disease prevention, to conduct research and to deliver patient care.

At UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Champine is a member of the Abdominal Imaging Division. The Abdominal Imaging Division is composed of board-certified, subspecialty-trained radiologists with clinical and research interests involving both inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the solid organs, soft tissues, and bowel. In addition, Dr. Champine is affiliated with several hospitals in the area, including Parkland Memorial Hospital and William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital.

Dr. Champine co-chairs UT Southwestern’s Appropriateness subcommittee of the Clinically Appropriate Accurate Radiation Exposure Committee and is a member of the committee’s Dose Reduction Workgroup. She also organizes the Pancreatic Cancer Tumor Board.

Dr. Champine studied pre-med at Texas A&M University in College Station before earning her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1988. She performed her residency in diagnostic radiology at Parkland Health & Hospital System in 1992, followed by her fellowship training in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 1993.

Dr. Champine serves on numerous committees, including the Radiology Residency Curriculum Committee, the Future of Radiology Medical Education Committee, the EPIC Academic Environment Project committee, and the Curriculum Reform Committee. She has been recognized with multiple Outstanding Teacher awards.

Dr. Champine is an active member of several national and international professional organizations, including the Society of Abdominal Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology, the Association of University Radiologists, and the Texas Medical Association. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and serves the organization as a writer and editor of RadExam.

Dr. Champine is board-certified in diagnostic radiology by the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is an independent, not-for-profit organization and is one of 24 national medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties. The mission of the ABR is to certify that their diplomates demonstrate the requisite knowledge, skill, and understanding of their disciplines to the benefit of patients.

Radiology is the medical specialty that uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases within the human body. Radiologists, like Dr. Champine, are medical doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases using medical imaging procedures (exams/tests), including X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET), and ultrasound. Dr. Champine focuses her research on abdominal imaging, Doppler ultrasound, genitourinary imaging, and percutaneous abdominal interventional procedures. Her investigations have led to multiple publications and contributions to textbooks.

Dr. Champine attributes her success to working hard and having had great mentors. In addition to spending time with her family and Labrador retrievers, she enjoys photography, live music, and paddleboarding.
