Julio Hajdenberg, MD, a Hematologist-Oncologist with VA Boston Healthcare System & Black Diamond Therapeutics

Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Julio Hajdenberg, who serves patients throughout the State of Massachusetts. 

A triple board-certified hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Hajdenberg is on the Faculty of Hematology and Oncology at VA Boston Healthcare System.

In his current position, he is leveraging his prior experience as a clinician and clinical investigator in cancer and blood disorders. 

Prior to moving to Massachusetts, Dr. Hajdenberg has had the opportunity to invent a cell phone-based hand hygiene monitoring device (Hygiene-Fi); co-founded Consystent AI, a small startup that explores the potential medical uses of socially assistive robots (SAR): the Betty project; and to collaborate with local entrepreneurs, the Mixed Emerging Technology Integration Lab at UCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training, and at the University of Florida.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Hajdenberg graduated with his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires in 1990. He then went on to perform his residency in internal medicine at Cooper University Hospital, and his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. 

Board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology, the doctor is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

As a clinician, Dr. Hajdenberg is proud of his immediate prior work of 17 years at MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando as Department Chair, where they built a best in class clinical practice, a fellowship training program, a clinical research program, a quality program, and a stem cell transplant program. 

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.
