Dr. Niazi is an interventional cardiologist with James River Cardiology, working with patients at their offices in Richmond, Virginia. He focuses on treating complex coronary artery blockages, peripheral vascular disease, and structural heart disease (predominantly valve problems) including nonsurgical aortic valve replacement (TAVR) as well as PFO/ASD closure. He is passionate about his patients’ well-being, focusing on getting his patients to live their best and healthiest lives.

Born in Albany, New York, Dr. Niazi completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College. He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, and completed his residency in internal medicine at North Shore University Hospital. He then went on to complete his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, before returning to North Shore University Hospital for his fellowship in interventional cardiology.

Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, echocardiography, nuclear medicine, vascular ultrasound, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

On a more personal note, Dr. Niazi lives in Midlothian, Virginia with his wife and two daughters.  For recreation, he enjoys traveling and exploring RVA with his family, going to the beach, hiking, exercising, and reading.
