Karen is a highly analytical, visionary hands-on leader and supervisory expert-level healthcare IT educator with expertise in supporting successful systems migrations. 

A woman of many titles, she is an Epic HIT Virtual Trainer; the Chief Executive Officer of Quintessential Consulting Services, LLC; an Epic New Hire Educator, Consultant, and Healthcare IT Credentialed Trainer; a Credentialed Trainer Clin Doc / Stork with Divurgent; and Treasurer of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club.

An empathetic, diplomatic resourceful educator and instructor, Karen is proficient in developing a comprehensive curriculum to provide ongoing systems training for all levels of staff. She is skilled in simplifying complex subject matter into laymen’s terms and highly adaptable facilitator proficient in tailoring different types of learning styles in a blended classroom setting. She is also effective in re-engineering workflows to meet the needs of the end-user, along with workflow delivery, curriculum, and cheat sheets (tip sheets) development, at the same time building strong lasting business relationships. 

A native of Westchester County, New York, Karen graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Mercy College in 1996. She then went on to earn her Master’s degree in Educational/Instructional Technology and her Master’s degree in Health Care Administration/Management from Strayer University in 2010 and 2013, respectively. 

Considered the gold standard of certification, Karen is a Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) through Scrum Alliance.

Health information technology is health technology, particularly information technology, applied to health and health care. It supports health information management across computerized systems and the secure exchange of health information between consumers, providers, payers, and quality monitors. The role of a health information technology professional is to process and maintain the medical records of a hospital or clinic. Also known as medical records technicians, their core responsibility is to manage the information submitted by patients, doctors, and healthcare specialists.

An educator and public speaker, Karen has taught and trained healthcare professionals in a virtual and non-virtual classroom environment in all facets of clinical documentation workflows, while at the same time providing instruction on how to document outcomes within a technical medical platform. She has serviced and taught over 200K clinicians throughout major University Hospitals located within the United States.

Encompassed within her life model, Karen attributes her success to many different attributes, including passion, persistence, creativity, self-discipline, a desire to improve, and life-long learning. 

On a more personal note, her hobbies consist of reading, writing, traveling, as well as listening to contemporary music, jazz selections, and gospel music.
