A Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) is an advanced practice registered nurse who holds certification and works autonomously or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, to deliver family-focused care. Given the rather broad nature of the “family” patient population focus, FNPs offer a wide range of healthcare services that revolve around the family unit; from health promotion and disease prevention to direct care and counseling across the lifespan.

A Board-Certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP-BC) is an advanced practice registered nurse that provides care to patients in acute care, hospital, or intensive care settings. This type of advanced practice provider is different from a family nurse practitioner. ACNP’s see patients when they are sick, admitted to the hospital, or after a surgical procedure and/or trauma. Their focus is solely on caring for the adult population (young, middle, and older adults, ages 13 and up) with complex diseases. This certification includes advanced procedures including but not limited to: Intubation & extubation, Lumbar puncture, administering conscious sedation, placing central and arterial lines, and inserting chest tubes.

A Board-Certified Emergency Nurse Practitioner (ENP-BC) is a board-certified advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who treats patients of all ages in emergency departments (EDs) or urgent care facilities in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. ENPs practice in community EDs, trauma centers, critical access hospitals, and urgent care clinics.
