Dr. Artz is a surgeon serving Tucson and the surrounding communities. Dr. Artz shares her love of medicine as she mentors high school students in both the Tucson and Vail School Districts aspiring to be doctors and surgeons. As an Associate Professor at the University of Arizona, she teaches medical students on the path to becoming physicians. Accepting most health care plans, Dr. Artz is currently accepting new patients. She is affiliated with St. Joseph’s Hospital, Tucson Medical Center, and Camp Lowell Surgery Center. To stay up to date in her field, she remains a professional member of the American College of Surgeons.
Surgery is a medical specialty that uses operative manual and instrumental techniques on a patient to investigate or treat a pathological condition such as a disease or injury, to help improve bodily function or appearance, or to repair unwanted ruptured areas. As a surgeon, Dr. Artz specializes in abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and often thyroid glands.
Originally from Tucson, Dr. Artz enjoys volunteering, movies, reading, running and soccer. She also participates in medical missions to Bolivia and Honduras. She volunteers at St. Elizabeth’s Health Center whose clinic focuses on treatment and care for the uninsured and the underserved. After moving away from Tucson to complete her surgical training, Dr. Artz moved back to join Southwestern Surgery in 2006. She is married to Timothy Dixon, MD an orthopedic surgeon, her son Austin was born in 2010 and her daughter Scarlett was born in 2013.
