Kenneth J. Brislin, MD, an Orthopaedic Surgeon with OAA Orthopaedic Specialists

Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Kenneth J. Brislin, who serves patients in Pennsylvania.

Dr. Brislin is an dexterous, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon in practice with OAA Orthopaedic Specialists, at the offices in Allentown, Bethlehem Township, and Lehighton, Pennsylvania.

“My calling to medicine was guided by a desire to help patients. I try to always make sure my patient feels heard, and to find a way to connect with my patient. Nothing makes my day more than hearing my patient tell me that he or she is feeling better. I hope that when my patient leaves my office, I have done a good job of explaining the problem and how we are going to fix the problem together” expressed the doctor.

A former rower, Dr. Brislin understands how devastating injuries can be to athletes. His practice is dedicated to helping patients and athletes return to peak performance as quickly and safely as possible. He focuses on arthroscopic and joint reconstruction procedures of the shoulder and elbow, as well as arthroscopic procedures of the knee, such as ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstructions. He also regularly performs total and partial knee replacements for patients suffering from arthritic knee pain.

Alongside his clinical role, he is active in educating medical residents and students, as well as physician assistants (PAs) and physician assistant students.

An Emmaus High School graduate, Dr. Brislin grew up in Allentown with a close association to the medical field as his father has practiced internal medicine for more than 30 years. His commitment to athletics in high school and college along with his desire to pursue a career in medicine made orthopaedic surgery the obvious choice.

He graduated from the University of Scranton before obtaining his medical degree at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. He then completed his residency within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, followed by his fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center.

“During the summer before my senior year in college, I participated in a program for pre-medical students run by a cardio-thoracic surgeon in Scranton. I became very interested in surgery after spending weeks with general surgeons, plastic surgeons, cardiothoracic surgeons, and, of course, orthopaedic surgeons. I entered medical school thinking about neonatology, the care of preterm infants. But I was more drawn to surgery as medical school progressed. I enjoyed orthopaedics most of all, because I really felt that this specialty could allow us to help restore patients to full function” as stated by Dr. Brislin.

Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the Lehigh County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

An Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Brislin is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and orthopaedic sports medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

When not caring for patients, Dr. Brislin enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and supporting the Miracle League of the Lehigh Valley.
