Kiersten Walther Ricci, MD, Hematologist-Oncologist at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center

Dr. Ricci is a board-certified pediatric hematologist-oncologist. She is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a faculty member within the Division of Hematology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She cares for children and young adults with blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease. Dr. Ricci also has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with non-malignant vascular tumors and vascular malformations. 

Dr. Ricci also serves as the Clinical Director of the Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation Center at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The Hemangioma and Vascular Malformation Center is one of the largest comprehensive vascular anomaly programs as well as one of 23 centers in the Sturge-Weber Foundation Clinical Care Network and one of 26 Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) Centers of Excellence in North America. The team follows approximately 4,000 patients and performs over 700 new consultations each year. The staff evaluate and treat both children and adults with a wide variety of vascular anomalies from around the United States and world. 

Dr. Ricci earned her medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2010. She then completed her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric hematology-oncology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 2013 and 2016, respectively. Following her training, Dr. Ricci attained board certification in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology through the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). 

Dr. Ricci performs and participates in clinical and translational research in hematology and the field of vascular anomalies. Her specific research interests are in complex lymphatic anomalies and coagulation abnormalities associated with vascular tumors and malformations.  She is also an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (ASPHO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), and International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA).
