Kimberleigh A. Harvey, RN, BSN, MSN, Registered Nurse

Get to know Registered Nurse, Kimberleigh A. Harvey, who serves patients throughout the country.

Kimberleigh is a registered nurse currently working as a travel nurse through AMN Healthcare company. She used to take travel assignments all over the country, but now she spends winters in Florida and goes back to New York/New Jersey for the summers.

“Travel nursing has been a positive experience for me because it has given me the chance to work in a variety of health care environments, from rural hospitals to leading institutions in big cities. I now have friends in a lot of places. Most hospitals welcome travelers with open arms–you feel like family by the time you go. Because of this, I’ve done repeat assignments at many hospitals, which is a perk” she reflected.

Kimberleigh stated that being a travel nurse is similar to floating because you have to be adaptable. Basic nursing skills are needed everywhere, but a traveler has to adapt to new computer systems, equipment and technologies. Additionally, there are different immigrant populations in different parts of the country, so travel nursing often requires learning the mores of different cultures.

Throughout her academic career, she earned her nursing degree from Saint Vincent College in 1993. From there, she attended the University of Bridgeport and earned her bachelor’s degree in 1997.

To remain up to date in her field, Kimberleigh holds membership status with the New Jersey State Nurses Association. She also specializes in intensive care medicine, medical surgical nursing, oncology, and neurology.

A Registered Nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include leadership, research, performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.

On a more personal note, Kimberleigh attributes her success to the great mentors she has had, her education, and the wonderful experiences she has had as a travel nurse and being able to help patients all over the world. She anticipates that she will travel for the remainder of her nursing career–at least another 20 years.
