A dedicated internist, Dr. Porter works with patients at the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center, an affiliate of the VA Oklahoma City Healthcare System. Additionally, she is an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Academicians Hospitalist University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.

Back in the early days of her academic career, Dr. Porter earned her medical degree from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. She then went on to complete her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. Finally, she completed a 6 month educational fellowship in palliative medicine at the Harvard Medical School. Additionally, she has an honorary doctorate degree in divinity, and is currently working on certification in functional medicine and a masters degree in healthcare administration. 

Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine. The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), she is an active member of the American College of Physicians, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Society of Hospital Medicine. 

Internal medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

An authority in her field, Dr. Porter has been the recipient of the Physician Recognition Award (2009), and On-The-Spot Award for Excellence in Medicine (2003).

Outside of work she enjoys exercising, studying and evangelizing the word of God, gardening, and raising catahoula leopard dogs.
