Get to know Pediatric Interventional Radiologist Dr. Kristi Bogan, who serves patients in Akron, Ohio.

Specializing in vascular anomalies, Dr. Bogan is a caring and compassionate pediatric interventional radiologist working at Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio.

From placing feeding tubes to performing joint injections to treating vascular malformations, she spends her days providing minimally invasive solutions for children that offer faster recovery times and less pain, risk and scarring than traditional surgeries.

After a hard day’s work, she enjoys reflecting on the number of patients she was able to help feel better that day. After all, success to her is being an effective healer and enjoying happiness on a job well done.

Graduating with her medical degree from Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara, Dr. Bogan went on to perform her residency in radiology at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Frank H. Netter, MD School of Medicine in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She followed this up with a fellowship in pediatric diagnostic radiology at Children’s Health Dallas/University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Her past experience as a nuclear medicine technologist and as a software salesperson has taught her not only the people skills that she needs to do her job, but also the business skills to perform it in the most professional and thoughtful manner possible.

A Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR), Dr. Bogan is certified in pediatric diagnostic radiology. The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.

Among her professional affiliations include the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, the American College of Radiology, the Society for Pediatric Radiology, the Society for Interventional Radiology, the American Roentgen Ray Society, the Society for Pediatric Interventional Radiology, the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies, and the American Society for Laser and Medicine in Surgery.

Interventional radiology uses imaging guided techniques to further diagnose or treat diseases with minimally invasive methods. Pediatric interventional radiologists diagnose and treat diseases and injuries in the least invasive way using different types of imaging machines – such as ultrasound, fluoroscopy and CT. The images help the doctor guide tiny instruments through the body to those hard-to-reach areas.

In her personal life, Dr. Bogan’s family includes her boyfriend and two Corgis: Asscher and Sophie. She loves to travel around Europe, and hopes to one day take a river cruise in the French Champagne region.
