LaVern, a registered nurse, serves as the Vice President of Nursing & Patient Services at Alamance Regional Medical Center in Burlington, North Carolina. 

Cone Health Alamance Regional Medical Center is a 238-bed medical and surgical hospital in Alamance County. Specialized services include heart and vascular, Cone Health Cancer Center,  Cone Health Women’s & Children’s Center (maternity services), as well as advanced imaging and surgical services, among others.

Joining Cone Health in 2005, LaVern has been involved in implementing electronic medical records across the network, served on the Cone Health Institutional Review Board, and was part of the steering committee working for re-designating Cone Health hospitals through the American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition Program. She has also been active with the Cone Health Diversity and Inclusion Council and with Cone Health’s cultural transformation work.

Before moving to Alamance Regional, she worked at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, where she was part of the senior management team and served as Director of Nursing & Patient Services for Cone Health. She also worked as a clinical nurse manager and a cardiac nurse specialist for Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Virginia. 

With a broad educational background, LaVern earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Health Administration (MHA) degrees from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina. She then went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degrees from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville.

Board-certified as a nurse executive by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, she is a member of the American Nurses Association and the North Carolina Nurses Association. She also holds a certification in Basic Life Support (not intended for post-nominal use).

Currently, LaVern serves on the boards of CrossRoads sexual assault response and resource center, and HealthShare Credit Union. 

A Registered Nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include leadership, research, performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.
