Dr. Pergolizzi is a highly-respected and experienced anesthesiologist with Naples Anesthesia & Pain Associates, Inc. who has been in practice for nearly two decades. His career in medicine began in 1996 when he graduated with his medical degree with high honors from Ross University School of Medicine. Dr. Pergolizzi then completed his internship in Internal Medicine with the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, followed by his residency in anesthesiology at Georgetown University Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He undertook his clinical research fellowship in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
Dr. Pergolizzi is currently executive chairman of Neumentum, Inc. of Palo Alto, Calif., a rapidly emerging specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing non-opioid pain products. He recently retired as a part-time adjunct assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at Johns Hopkins and took on the role of CEO of Native Cardio, Inc., concentrating his efforts on developing groundbreaking medical devices for cardiology patients. Dr. Pergolizzi has led the clinical investigation and strategic commercialization of a number of disruptive pharmaceutical and medical device products, and also serves as COO of NEMA Research, Inc. of Naples, Fla.
Dr. Pergolizzi has also developed Pain-360®, a unique paradigm for treating chronic pain which looks at the entire panorama of the pain experience. The four cardinal points of Pain-360® are Education, Lifestyle Modifications, Nonpharmacological Treatments, and Pharmacological Treatments. Dr. Pergolizzi has previously been recognized as one of “America’s Best Doctors” by the American Health Council based on his expertise in clinical research, pain medicine, anesthesia, internal medicine, pharmacology, drug discovery and regulatory affairs.
Among his many accomplishments, he is an editorial board member or reviewer for several medical journals, including JAMA, Pain Practice, Experimental Medicine, Journal of Medicine, American Journal of Managed Care, and Pain Medicine. In addition, he is the author of over 200 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, presentations, and book chapters.
