Dr. Miller is a highly experienced cardiothoracic surgeon, and has been in practice for more than 43 years. His life in medicine began in 1965 when he graduated from Emory University University School of Medicine, and he also completed an internship and residency at Emory, as well as undertaking a residency at Mayo Clinic. In all, Dr. Miller provided 45 years of exceptional service at Emory.
With such a wealth of experience and knowledge, Dr. Miller performs surgery for a wide range of conditions. In his long and very distinguished career he has carried out thousands of surgeries, specializing in operations for lung cancer, esophageal cancer, hyperhidrosis and more. Demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the field of cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Miller has had many medical papers published and has also served as a director of the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and vice chairman of the Residency Review Committee for Thoracic Surgery among other prestigious positions.
Dr. Miller says that he was encouraged to take his first steps into medicine by his father, and another mentor who had a big influence on him was Emory’s Dr. Charles Hatcher Jr. who taught him the importance of never being defeated, and being the best possible. He has taken these qualities on to his work at Piedmont Hospital, and with a host of awards throughout his career, Dr. Joseph Miller is now also a very worthy winner of a 2016 Top Doctor Award.
