Michael J. Dr. Michael Athans is a highly respected and experienced clinical psychologist, having been in practice for over 30 years. He received his master’s degree from Columbia University, N.Y. and his doctorate degree from Michigan State University. As an Advocate Health Care doctor, he has served on several hospital committees. Previously, he was Chief of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry from 2003 through 2016. In addition, Dr. Athans is a member of the Illinois Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association. He is currently Chair of the IPA Membership Committee and formerly a member of the IPA Ethics Committee.
Dr. Athans works with children, adolescents, and families. He specializes in adult and child attention deficit, anxieties, the strong-willed child, parenting, and health psychology, including psychological factors affecting medical conditions, medical adherence, stress management, and encopresis.
