Dr. Dilantha B. Ellegala is a highly respected and experienced physician, having been in practice for over two decades. His career in medicine began in 1996 when he graduated with his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine. After medical school, Dr. Ellegala completed his internship in Neurosurgery at the University of Washington Medical Center, followed by his residency in Neurosurgery at the University of Virginia. Driven to further his expertise and knowledge, he undertook his fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital with Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Ellegala is certified in Neurological Surgery, and in 2016 he started Virginia Neurospine as a destination site in Virginia for Brain and Spine Care. He is known for his work in Tanzania where he was astounded at the fact that the country, had just three brain surgeons for a nation of forty-two million. The work Dr. Ellegala and his wife Carin did in Africa is immortalized in the book “A Surgeon in the Village,” by Pulitzer-nominated journalist, Tony Bartelme.
Dr. Ellegala keeps current with the newest developments, guidelines, and procedures in his field by remaining a distinguished member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
