Get to know Gynecologic Oncologist Dr. Leda Portia Gattoc, who serves patients in Georgia.

A prominent gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Gattoc works at Piedmont Physicians Gynecologic Oncology, operating out of the offices in Atlanta and Fayette, Georgia. 

Her passion for her job allows her to provide high quality, personalized care to women with gynecologic cancers, utilizing both surgery and chemotherapy. In addition, she has a special interest in pre-invasive diseases,  complex benign gynecologic conditions, and management of women with genetic predisposition to gynecologic related cancers. Dr. Gattoc also employs minimally invasive techniques in her practice using both traditional laparoscopic surgery as well as robotic surgery. 

Academically, Dr. Gattoc earned her medical degree from the New York University Grossman School of Medicine in New York City in 2005 and completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park in 2009.

After residency, she completed a Pelvic Surgery Fellowship at Emory University in 2013 where she also obtained her degree in Master of Science in Clinical Research. Thereafter, she went on to complete her fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Wayne State University/ Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit, Michigan in 2017.

Holding a designated practitioner certification in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Dr. Gattoc is board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology & Gynecologic Oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Remaining up to date in her field, she is an active member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. She has published and presented several research projects during and after her training and co-authored chapters in medical textbooks and literature. She continues to participate in  research opportunities that can help  improve care and clinical outcomes for women with gynecologic malignancies.  

Gynecologic oncology is a specialized field of medicine that focuses on cancers of the female reproductive system, including ovarian, uterine, vaginal, cervical and vulvar cancers, and gestational trophoblastic disease.  As specialists, gynecologic oncologists have extensive surgical training necessary to treat gynecologic related malignancies, complex pelvic conditions. They also diagnose and manage premalignant conditions leading to cancer, ie cervical dysplasia and endometrial hyperplasia. Gynecologic oncologists are the only specialty surgeons who can also administer and prescribe  chemotherapy and medically manage the symptoms and medical conditions that can arise and complicate cancer treatment.  

On a more personal note, Dr. Gattoc is fluent in English, Spanish, and Tagalog.
