Dr. Friedman specializes in pediatric ophthalmology, retinopathy of prematurity, pediatric, and adult strabismus at Florida Eye Microsurgical Institute. As a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist and a fellowship-trained pediatric/strabismus specialist eye doctor, he has been diagnosing, treating, and operating on children as well as adults for more than thirty years. For the last fourteen years of his career, he has served at the Institute, where he is also a partner.

Well-known and respected among his peers for his work in general, Dr. Friedman also has an excellent reputation for treating the most complicated cases in newborns and young children. Over time, he has watched many of his patients mature from children into young adults and he takes great pleasure in seeing the rewards of his work from earlier years.
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, whose mission is to serve the public by improving the quality of ophthalmic practice through a process of certification and Maintenance of Certification that fosters excellence and encourages continual learning.
Originally from Miami Beach, Dr. Friedman earned his medical degree from the Chicago Medical School in Illinois. He completed both his internship and his residency at Tampa General Hospital, an affiliation of the University of South Florida, followed by his fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital.
In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the Florida Medical Association. He has published several articles on night blindness and myopia.
Pediatric ophthalmology is a subspecialty of ophthalmology concerned with eye diseases, visual development, and vision care in children. A pediatric ophthalmologist is a medical and surgical doctor (an Eye MD) who graduated from medical school and specializes in the care of children’s eyes. They practice in a variety of medical institutions including children’s hospitals, university medical centers, and large community hospitals.
