Observing their medical rounds and interactions with patients was rewarding and fascinating, and it planted the seed for Dr. Douglas-Churchwell’s medical career.
After graduating from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, she went on to earn her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, she completed her internship and residency in internal medicine at Emory University in Atlanta.
Following her education, Dr. Douglas-Churchwell became board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
In order to stay at the forefront of her challenging specialty, she remains a member of the Tennessee Women’s Association and the American Heart Association. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Douglas-Churchwell enjoys reading, doing crossword puzzles, and traveling when she is not working. Her favorite vacation spots include Sea Island (Georgia), Paris, London, and New York City.
