A 1981 graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Dr. Groene went on to complete her internship within the Department of Medicine at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital in Ohio. This was followed by a residency in the Department of Anatomic Pathology at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami from 1982-1983, and an additional residency in the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in Miami Beach from 1984-1986.
Following her education, she became board-certified in internal medicine with additional qualifications in geriatrics by the American Board of Internal Medicine, which is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. She served as a volunteer at the Salvation Army Medical Clinic for the Homeless from 1992-1993, and on the Board of Directors at the Service Agency for Senior Citizens from 1998-2002.
In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Groene is a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, the Broward County Medical Association, the American Geriatrics Society, the Florida Geriatrics Society, and the Florida Bioethics Network. At present, she is affiliated with Holy Cross Hospital and Imperial Point Medical Center, where she has been serving as Chief of Staff since May of 2010.
Internal medicine or general medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Physicians specializing in internal medicine are called internists. They manage and prevent common and complex diseases by providing comprehensive care and promoting overall well-being.

Among the doctor’s philanthropic endeavors, she served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader from 1993 to 1998, and as a Women’s Executive Club Member, mentoring female high school students from 1995 to 1998.
