Lisa Park, OD, an Optometrist with Focal Point Eyecare Institute of Myopia Management

Get to know Optometrist Dr. Lisa Park, who serves patients in Carrollton, Texas.

Dr. Park founded Focal Point Eyecare Institute of Myopia Management in 2022 to protect children’s eyesight from the growing myopia epidemic.  Myopia is also known as nearsightedness, and people with myopia are reliant on glasses or contact lenses to be able to see far away.  Severe myopia results in higher risks of developing eye conditions such as glaucoma, retinal detachments, and macular degeneration.  In the past, there was no treatment for myopia; children wore glasses and their eyes changed every year until adulthood.  Now we are able to treat myopia by managing its progression and stabilizing children’s eyes before they reach adulthood.

Focal Point Eyecare Institute of Myopia Management provides myopia management for children ages 6-17 with preventative therapies backed by the latest research.  Myopia can be treated with ortho-keratology lenses and dual focus soft lenses, both of which are FDA-approved.  Low-dose atropine is available for children who are not good candidates for contact lenses. They also fit adults in specialty contact lenses, including ortho-keratology lenses.  They also provide routine eye exams, glasses, and medical care for all patients.

Dr. Park decided to open Focal Point Institute of Myopia Management as she noticed more and more of her pediatric patients becoming nearsighted.  She herself is highly myopic and is personally invested in making sure her patients are able to experience freedom from glasses and contact lenses.

Dr. Park is board-certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry. She is also an active member of the North East Texas Optometric Association, the International Keratoconus Academy, the American Optometric Association, and the Texas Optometric Association.

A proud Sagehen (Pomona College, Class of 2005) and a former middle school teacher, Dr. Park graduated with her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Florida. She practiced in Georgia and Virginia before moving to Texas. She has worked as an associate doctor at several practices in the Dallas area.

When she is not taking care of her patients, Dr. Park likes to spend time with her husband and her two children. (She tries not to constantly check her kids to see if they are becoming myopic). She also plays the violin with the New Texas Symphony Orchestra at Moody Performance Hall. Speaking multiple languages, she is fluent in English, Spanish, and Korean. Fun fact, she has lived in nine different states: Ohio, New York, Missouri, Washington, California, Florida, Georgia, Virginia, and Texas.

Optometry is a health care profession that involves examining the eyes and applicable visual systems for defects or abnormalities, as well as diagnosing and managing eye disease. Optometrists are healthcare professionals who provide primary eye care through comprehensive eye examinations to detect and treat various visual abnormalities and eye diseases. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location. Thus, disorders or diseases detected outside the treatment scope of optometry (i.e. those requiring certain surgical interventions) are referred out to relevant medical professionals for proper care, more commonly to ophthalmologists who are physicians that specialize in the tertiary medical and surgical care of the eye. Optometrists typically work closely together with other eye care professionals, such as ophthalmologists and opticians, to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.
