He subsequently pursued formal neurosurgery residency at the University of Louisville where he gained extensive experience in complex spine surgery with renowned surgeons at the Leatherman Spine Institute, followed by a fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base surgery at the renowned Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle, Washington.

Subsequent to his training, the doctor attained board certification in neurosurgery and neuroendovascular surgery through the American Board of Neurological Surgery, whose broad aim is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby serve the cause of public health.

Holding fellowship status, Dr. Shah is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS) and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

In addition, he is an active member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Neurocritical Care Society, the North American Spine Society, and the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery.
