Dr. Randhawa is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon practicing at The Heart Institute at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Kentucky. “As I learned more about the big advances in medicine, cardiac surgery had a prominent role and it continues to do so. Dr. Randhawa received his medical degree in 1989 at Boston University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. He continued his training with his general surgery residencies conducted at the The Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois (1989-1991, 1995-1997). He ultimately performed his thoracic surgery fellowship at The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison, Wisconsin (1997 – 1999). Prior to medical school, Dr. Randhawa obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts.
“I am a self-made man. I migrated to the US as a young man, worked hard and put myself through college and medical school. I also served honorably in the Army National Guard, the Air Force reserve, and ultimately the Air National Guard,” stated Dr. Randhawa about his education. He describes himself as a representative of someone who has lived the American Dream.
Subsequent to his education, the doctor attained board certification in cardiothoracic surgery through the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABST). The American Board of Thoracic Surgery is an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest. He is also board certified in general surgery with the American Board of Surgery (ABS).
Cardiothoracic surgery is the field of medicine involved in surgical treatment of organs inside the thoracic cavity – generally treatment of conditions of the heart, lungs, and other pleural or mediastinal structures.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Randhawa maintains a license to practice in several states, including Oklahoma, Texas, California, and Kentucky. He maintains an active professional membership with the Society of Thoracic Surgery
