With a broad educational background, Dr. El Gasim attended Duke University, where he received the Angier B. Duke scholarship, the University’s most prestigious merit-based award. After graduating magna cum laude, he received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He then completed advanced training in ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he served as chief resident. During his training, he was awarded the Austen T. Gray Memorial Scholarship, which recognizes a single ophthalmology resident for overall excellence and the delivery of exceptional patient-care. Prior to joining Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center, he completed specialized training in retina and uveitis at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Committed to improving eyesight, he is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.
Engaged in scientific and clinical research, Dr. El Gasim’s research has been awarded and his findings have been considered to be of high interest to the vision and ophthalmology research community.
Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association.
