Dr. Mahmoud A. Khaimi, MD, is a board certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in glaucoma, cataracts, and premium cataract surgery. His exceptional career and devotion to advancing eye care have positioned him as a leading expert in the industry.
Renowned for his expertise, Dr. Khaimi serves as the Clinical Professor, James P. Luton, MD Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology, and Glaucoma Fellowship Director at the prestigious Dean McGee Eye Institute/University of Oklahoma Department of Ophthalmology in Oklahoma City. His commitment to educating future ophthalmologists has garnered him the 2010 Excellence in Attending at VA Award for his outstanding contributions to residents’ education.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Khaimi received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Wayne State University School of Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude with honors. He then completed an internship at St. John’s Hospital and Medical Center, followed by a residency in ophthalmology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. This training was followed by a fellowship in glaucoma at the Dean McGee Eye Institute, where he later joined the faculty.
Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Khaimi is a member of esteemed organizations such as the American Glaucoma Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (where he serves as a glaucoma panel member on the Practicing Ophthalmologist Curriculum Committee), the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the Oklahoma Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, and the Chandler Grant Society.
Throughout his line of work, Dr. Khaimi has contributed to numerous book chapters, publications, research in glaucoma, and serves as a scientific reviewer for several ophthalmology journals. He has also served on expert panels for the American Glaucoma Society in setting priorities for glaucoma research, and is the lead ophthalmologist for the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA team.
Named the 2017 Innovator of the Year by “The Journal Record,” Dr. Khaimi continues to push boundaries with his pioneering techniques and dedication to improving patient outcomes. His development of the minimally invasive procedure known as ABiC has provided a safe and effective alternative for patients with glaucoma.

The book is the first of its kind for glaucoma surgery and provides a window into glaucoma surgical procedures with rapid insight and ready-to-reference information from more than 50 experienced surgeons in the profession.

As the primary and co-investigator for several studies, he continues to shape the future of ophthalmology with his invaluable contributions to the field.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Khaimi enjoys a fulfilling family life with his wife, Suzie, and six children in Edmond, Oklahoma. An avid hunter and fisherman, he and his family share a love for the outdoors, enriching their lives with nature’s beauty.
