Dr. Dean is a board-certified otolaryngologist, practicing full time in private practice at Ear & Sinus Institute in Fort Worth, Texas. For over 15 years, he has been helping patients from all over the world find relief from their complex ear and sinus issues.

He focuses on the subspecialty of otorhinology, which dives even deeper into the medical and surgical management of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and sinuses. He pioneered the revolutionary Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation and also specializes in the Balloon Sinuplasty™ procedure.

An academic leader in his field, Dr. Dean serves on faculty as a Clinical Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at both Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport & Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Attending Baylor University for his undergraduate studies in bioinformatics, Dr. Dean attended Texas Tech for his medical training. He then completed an internship in general surgery, a residency in otolaryngology/ head and neck surgery, and a fellowship in rhinology and skull base surgery at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center Shreveport.

With a passion for his specialty, Dr. Dean is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. The Board serves the public by assuring that diplomates meet the standards of training, knowledge, and professionalism through initial and continuing certification.

In addition to being a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Shreveport Medical Society, the Tarrant County Medical Association, and the American Telemedicine Association.

A pioneer in the fields of otorhinology and telemedicine, Dr. Dean is the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Vitruvio Institute of Medical Advancement (VIMA). He has dedicated his life to solving healthcare problems by implementing innovative technology and developing breakthrough techniques.

As a lead researcher in clinical trials for a number of new devices, along with his heavy involvement in the development of new procedures, Dr. Dean is a recognized thought leader in the ENT medical community. His forward-thinking approach to medicine has made him a leading practitioner of the novel new procedure for the treatment of Eustachian tube dysfunction, Eustachian tube balloon dilation. This treatment incorporates methodologies from across medical fields to bring unprecedented relief to patients suffering from Eustachian tube dysfunction.

His use of new telemedicine technologies has also allowed him to make an impact at a global scale—with humanitarian outreach programs in both Latin America and the Middle East. Since 2011, Dr. Dean has made several trips to Iraq to establish a telemedicine-based hospital system in the region. Through this hospital and his subsequent tele-fellowship program, he has been able to treat Syrian refugees and train Kurdish doctors in U.S. standards and best practices.

His progressive approach to medicine has led to a partnership with NASA to develop the future of tele-operated robotic surgery. Through this partnership, Dr. Dean is working with a team of experts to develop a robot capable of performing surgery in space. This technology could open the door for space-based surgery for lunar or Martian missions, as well as long distance tele-operations around the globe.

Otolaryngology is a medical specialty which is focused on the ears, nose, and throat. It is also called otolaryngology-head and neck surgery because specialists are trained in both medicine and surgery. An otolaryngologist is often called an ear, nose, and throat doctor, or an ENT for short.

As President and CEO of the Otorhinologic Research Institute, a non-profit organization focusing on the development of new treatments for ear, sinus and eustachian tube disorders, Dr. Dean hopes to raise the awareness of these conditions in local medical communities around the world. 

In that capacity, he has taught, lectured, and led mission trips to multiple countries providing free information to doctors and necessary medical treatment to those in need. New endeavors include the development of a cochlear implant program in northern Iraq and a head and neck program in Vietnam.

When he is not teaching or treating patients, Dr. Dean can be found cooking or enjoying a good book. He also loves traveling and outdoor activities, like fishing and mountain biking.
