He completed fellowships in both advanced heart failure and heart transplantation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he was also a resident in internal medicine.

An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Alongside his clinical role, he serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Medicine at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, where he trains medical students, interns and residents.
