Attributing her success to her dedication and her parents’ support, Dr. Castello-Ramirez is a board-certified vascular surgeon who practices at Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute IO Silver Clinic in Hershey, Pennsylvania. 

Relating to her profession, the doctor is affiliated with Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State Children’s Hospital, which are Penn State’s medical school and academic medical center in Hershey. Penn State Health is a multi-hospital health system serving patients and communities across central Pennsylvania. 

Alongside her clinical role, Dr. Castello-Ramirez serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery at Penn State Heart and Vascular Institute, which is a national model for comprehensive care, research, and medical education.

In the early days of her academic career, she earned her medical degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, Newark in 2010. She then went on to complete her residency in general surgery at St. Luke’s–Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York in 2015, followed by her fellowship in vascular surgery at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in 2017. 

A member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery, Dr. Castello-Ramirez is board-certified through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge in the field of surgery. 

Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, including the arteries, veins, and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. A vascular surgeon diagnoses, treats, and manages conditions in the arteries and veins, also called the blood vessels. These specialists treat a range of health problems, from spider and varicose veins to life-threatening aneurysms, and can help patients manage chronic conditions throughout their lives.

When she is not practicing medicine, Dr. Castello-Ramirez enjoys cooking, traveling, indoor cycling, and photography. Her favorite professional publications are the Journal of Vascular Surgery and the New England Journal of Medicine.
