Seeing as how Marie’s home in Haiti had no health care, she became very involved in helping there as well. Attributing her success to growing up in a medical family, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing in 1983, followed by her Master of Arts (MA) degree in Nursing Education from Pace University in 2009. Years later, in 2016, she obtained her Doctor of Education (EdD) degree in Nursing Education from Nova Southeastern University.
For the purpose of staying up to date in her field, she remains a member of the American Nurses Association, the Association of Community Health Nursing Educators, and the Haitian American Nurses Association.
A registered nurse (RN) is a nurse who has graduated from a nursing program and met the requirements outlined by a country, state, province or similar licensing body to obtain a nursing license. RNs fulfill a variety of job duties. In addition to their primary role in treating and caring for patients, their responsibilities also include educating patients and the public about a variety of medical conditions, as well as providing emotional support and advice to the families of their patients. Other RN job functions include leadership, research, performing diagnostic tests and analyzing results, operating medical equipment, administering medications, recording patients’ symptoms and medical histories, and assisting with patient rehabilitation and follow-up.
On the subject of her achievements, Marie has been the recipient of several awards and honors throughout her career, including the ESPRIT Award by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (2000, 2008), the ABCD Award by the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (1992, 2002, 2003, 2008), the SDA Nursing Distinction Award by Emmanuel SDA Church (2014), and the Dr. Charles L. Faires Dissertation of Distinction Award by the NSU Abraham S. Fischler College of Education (2016), among others.
