Mariefel is a doctor of nursing practice who has over three decades of experience in her field. She is the Supervisory Nurse at a prestigious community hospital in New York.

As such, her job responsibilities include managing the operating room (OR), providing patient care, assisting in the formulation of OR service policies, objectives, and standards, overseeing training relative to the health and safety of employees, supervising and assigning work to employees, providing technical oversight, developing performance plans, evaluating staff’s work performance, providing recommended ratings of record, interviewing applicants, recommending hiring, promotion, or reassignments, taking disciplinary measures like warnings and reprimands, and identifying developmental and training needs of employees. She also provides care to patients with special emphasis on the relationships between individual health and job description.

With a passion for customer service, Mariefel has been working in the OR since 1996 and has been serving as a perioperative nurse in the military since 2011. “Nursing gives me more confidence to perform professionally and has empowered me to reach out to other nurses, encouraging them to further themselves in the field. My mom is my inspiration to become a nurse and my dad, who served in the Philippine Army for 33 years, is also my role model to join the military, henceforth I become a US Army Nurse.” she stated.

After earning her high school diploma, Mariefel went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from Liceo de Cagayan University in 1991. Years later, she earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from Excelsior College in 2011, followed by her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from Walden University in 2017.

Motivated by the patients who need her at the start of each day, Mariefel strives to make a difference in their lives by putting herself in their shoes. “This way, you will really demand a safe patient care service because you will feel how vulnerable you become when you are not totally in control of your health and life.” she expressed.

In order to stay up to date in her field, she remains an active member of several professional organizations, including the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN), the American Nurses Association (ANA), and the Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing.

Among her philanthropic endeavors, she is passionately involved with the New York Blood Center (NYBC) and God’s Love We Deliver (GLWD)

In recognition of her academic and clinical expertise, Mariefel is the recipient of the Honor Society Award (2010, 2013), Nurse of Excellence (2012), and Certificate of Achievement (2019).

Additionally, she published an article, ‘Low Health Literacy and Preoperative Instruction Compliance Among Patients Undergoing Surgical Procedures’ in November of 2017. Its purpose was to provide more insight into ways to decrease canceled and delayed surgical procedures among low health literacy patients due to noncompliance with preoperative fasting instructions.
