Since 2017, Dr. Roytman has also served as a UCSF Health Sciences Clinical Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology and Liver Program Director at UCSF Fresno. Dr. Roytman’s academic interests encompass a broad range of liver-related conditions, including non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, drug-induced liver injury, viral hepatitis, and alcohol-related liver disease. Her commitment to research is evident through her numerous publications and her role as principal investigator in multiple clinical trials. Recently, Dr. Roytman has focused her research efforts on alcohol-related liver disease—a pressing concern that has surged during the COVID-19 pandemic—as well as metabolic dysfunction-associated liver disease, which has reached epidemic proportions in the United States.
Dr. Roytman’s educational background is as impressive as her clinical work. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, followed by her Medical Degree from the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in internal medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and further honed her expertise with a fellowship in medical education at the John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Roytman is an elected Fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease. Her excellence in the field has been recognized through multiple awards for her presentations on hepatitis and drug-induced liver injury.
In her personal life, Dr. Roytman enjoys yoga, reading, and creative writing. She is also fluent in Russian, enriching her ability to connect with a diverse patient population.
