Get to know Otolaryngologist Dr. Marisa A. Earley, who serves pediatric patients in San Antonio, Texas.

A devoted, fellowship-trained pediatric otolaryngologist, Dr. Earley sees patients at the University Health System’s Pediatric Specialty Clinic on the main campus of the University Hospital. An additional off-Campus office location will be opening in early 2023. She is also part of the Vascular Anomalies and Craniofacial Multidisciplinary Teams and Clinics at University Hospital. She is helping to develop a multidisciplinary Aerodigestive Clinic, which will partner with pediatric pulmonology, pediatric gastroenterology, speech and language pathology, respiratory therapy and dieticians. 

Her areas of clinical focus include management of neonatal and infant swallowing disorders and medical and surgical management of pediatric airway obstruction, obstructive sleep apnea, eustachian tube dysfunction, recurrent ear infections, neck masses, and sinonasal disease. 

She is the Division Chief of Pediatric Otolaryngology as well as the Residency Program Director with the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. She is also an Associate Professor at University of Texas Health San Antonio Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, and she participates in the education of medical students, nursing students and allied health professionals such as speech and language pathologists. Her academic interests include non-surgical management of post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage, neonatal and infant feeding as well as patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.

In regards to her educational background, Dr. Earley obtained her medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 2010. She then completed her internship at said establishment in 2011, after which she entered her residency in otolaryngology at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY graduating in 2015. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric otolaryngology at NYU Langone Medical Center, graduating in 2016.

Dr. Earley is board-certified in otolaryngology by the American Board of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, which is a non-profit corporation that has set the mission of ensuring professional standards with certificates and memberships and has offered training in the fields of head neck surgery to professionals since 1924. She is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Texas.

Currently, Dr. Earley is pursuing an Executive Masters of Business Administration at University of Texas San Antonio. She feels that this type of education will allow her to expand her effectiveness as a clinician and leader in healthcare and academic medicine. Dr. Earley is passionate about improving the lives of fellow physicians and providers by focusing wellness initiatives aimed at assessing and mitigating burnout. She is part of the University of Texas System working group on Physician Burnout. Dr. Earley is also an active member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, the Association of Women Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.

Otolaryngology is believed to be the oldest medical specialty in the United States. Pediatric otolaryngologists focus on the care of children with complex diseases of the head and neck and aerodigestive tract, or in some cases more common diseases in this anatomical region in otherwise medically complex children.
