Dr. Napolitano is a board-certified vascular surgeon who welcomes patients at Bergen Surgical Specialists, a vascular and endovascular surgery practice he established in 2003. He and his team perform advanced vascular surgery procedures in five hospitals in northern Jersey, and have plans to expand to more hospitals of the Hackensack Meridian Health Network. Licensed to practice in the states of New York and New Jersey, Dr. Napolitano is a New York Magazine Top Doctor (2014), as well a Castle Connolly Top Doctor (2014).
Born and raised in Rome, Italy, dr. Napolitano completed his undergraduate degree Summa cum Laude at the Collegio San Giuseppe-Istituto DeMerode. He earned his medical degree Cum Laude in 1984 at the Medical School Universita’ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart). He remained at the medical school doing research on liver transplantation prior to relocating to the United States in 1986. After a one-year internship at Hackensack Hospital, he completed a two-year general surgery residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, before transferring to Henry Ford Hospital and Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, to complete his surgical residency in 1992. Dr. Napolitano conducted his vascular surgery residency at the same educational venue in 1994.
Dr. Napolitano attained board certification in general surgery and vascular surgery with the American Board of Surgery. The American Board of Surgery is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 to provide board certification to individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery.
Vascular surgery is a surgical subspecialty in which diseases of the vascular system, or arteries, veins and lymphatic circulation, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction.
An Assistant Clinical Professor at the Rutgers Medical School, Dr. Napolitano is a passionate advocate of patient safety and firmly believes that the future lies in constantly improving the quality of care that he delivers. He works every day to make this vision a reality. Outside his practice, he is an amateur photographer and long distance motorcycle rider, hobbies he is blessed to share with his wife and three children. Dr. Napolitano is an extensively published author as well as Fellow of the American College of Surgeons – FACS.
