Get to know Family Nurse Practitioner, Matthew Bounds, who serves patients in Mississippi.
Matthew is a certified family nurse practitioner seeing patients at his private practice – Bounds Family Medicine – in Mississippi. With over 20 years of experience in the medical field, his work experiences include emergency room, ICU, post anesthesia care unit, infection control, child psychiatry, adult psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and geriatric psychiatry.
Educated in the United States, he earned his Associate Degree in Nursing from Hinds Community College, and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from South University. Later, he received his Master of Science in Nursing degree in family practice from the same educational venue.
Remaining up to date in his field, he is an active member of the Mississippi Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Joining the 183rd Aeromedical Evacuation Unit of the Mississippi Air National in 1989, Matthew served as a Medical Technician until graduating from nursing school, then advanced to a flight nurse in 2006. Currently, he is a veteran that is still employed by the Mississippi Air National Guard that served 4 deployments in support of Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Operation New Dawn.
A Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) holds certification and provides continuing and comprehensive healthcare for the individual and family across all ages, genders, diseases, and body systems. FNPs maintain patient records, perform physical exams, order or perform diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, develop treatment plans, as well as treat acute and chronic illnesses, conditions, and injuries that fall under primary care.
On a more personal note, Matthew had a calling to work in a rural area. He enjoys the relationships he could establish in a small community that just weren’t there in the bigger cities. He relocated with his wife, Wanda Guedon-Bounds, and his two daughters from Flowood, Massachusetts to be near his wife’s family who live in the local area. He has been in the area for over 2 years and has come to know both personally and professionally many of the individuals that reside in and around Fayette, Massachusetts. He just wants to make a difference in the area that he now resides in.
