Matthew P. Scoles, DMD, a Dentist with Glastonbury Dental Associates
Get to know Dentist Dr. Matthew P. Scoles, who serves patients in Glastonbury, Connecticut.
Dr. Scoles has been treating teeth at Glastonbury Dental Associates for nearly 15 years so far, and he greatly enjoys working alongside his father, Dr. Marc Scoles, in the process.
Building relationships with patients and their families is his favorite part of this job, as well as helping people build newfound confidence through achieving a healthier, more attractive smile. There is no better joy for him than seeing someone walk out of the dental office with a new outlook on life.
Having always felt a calling to help people improve their health and well-being, Dr. Scoles really enjoys being able to work directly with his hands as well. From there, the dental field was a natural fit. He was also able to watch his father care for smiles while growing up and saw firsthand the tangible ways he helped others lead better lives, which was certainly inspiring as well.
His educational career started with the completion of his Bachelor of Science degree from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. Between his undergraduate education and dental school, Dr. Scoles worked as a research assistant for Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement in Military Medicine in Rockville, where he evaluated clinical trials for possible HIV vaccines. Then, he attended the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in Farmington, earning his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry degree in 2005.
As for postgraduate education, Dr. Scoles attended a General Practice Residency at Hartford Hospital, where he developed a particular interest in becoming a dentist who sees the whole mouth and how everything works together. He has attended advanced training with SPEAR Education, many advanced courses in CEREC, and is certified in Invisalign.
In addition, he is a member of the following dental organizations: the American Dental Association, the Connecticut Dental Association, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the Academy of General Dentistry, and the SPEAR Faculty Club.
Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries and extractions, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
Happily married, Dr. Scoles and his wife Sara (who is a dentist in South Windsor) have two daughters named Emilia and Molly. When he isn’t busy at work, being with his family consumes most of his free time. His other hobbies include playing golf, brewing his own beer, cooking all types of BBQ on his smoker, and cheering on the Yankees.
He is the current VP and past president of Friends of Glastonbury Youth, as well as a member of Faith Lutheran Church in East Hartford. He is also very passionate about scuba diving and even has a saltwater reef tank at his house with fish and coral! If he hadn’t gone into dentistry, he’d definitely be working as a marine biologist instead.
