Meet Dr. Debra Hauser: Licensed Clinical Psychologist, ADHD Treatment Expert, and Youth Advocate

Dr. Debra Hauser is a distinguished clinical psychologist with over twenty five years of experience in evaluating and treating teens and adults, couples, and families. Her comprehensive approach integrates cognitive and dialectical behavioral interventions (CBT, DBT), as well as systems and psychodynamic modalities with her clients.

Hauser earned her Ph.D. from The Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University and was awarded The Kurt Derner Early Career Award for her research on intergenerational attachment styles. She did her internship and residency at the Yale University School of Medicine, followed by a two year, post-doctoral fellowship at the Yale Center for Eating and Weight Disorders, where she was later appointed Clinical Director.

A respected member of several professional organizations, Dr. Hauser participates in  the American Psychological Association (APA), the American Professional Society of ADHD and Related Disorders, the Connecticut Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology (CSPP), Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), as well as the World Federation of ADHD. Her academic interests extend to vulnerable populations; Dr. Hauser has been involved in the creation of state and federal policy-making efforts surrounding social mobility and income inequality.  Dr. Hauser has also written on the expansion of free lunches to include free breakfasts which, when implemented, improved the lives of thousands of children in Connecticut. She also served on the Connecticut Commision on Children.

In the private sector, as the President and CEO of Connecticut Weight and Wellness, Dr. Hauser spearheaded successful weight loss programs while developing innovative emotional eating education initiatives. Dr. Hauser has a long record of public service, serving as the Community Chair for The National Center for Children Exposed to Violence (NCCEV) at the Yale Child Study Center and holding an appointment there, of Lecturer, for nineteen years. She also has worked with the New Haven Police Department helping victims and providing support to their families. Dr. Hauser is the recipient of several awards for her advocacy work.  Her particular area of scholarly interest is children and families with ADHD. She sets aside a portion of her practice for ADHD treatment and consultation.
