Meet Kenya Sekoni Etim, MD, FAAFP, MS, a Visionary Woman of God Committed to Community Service

Dedicated to Community Service and Educating Patients on Breaking Unhealthy Family Habits

Dr. Kenya Sekoni Etim, MD, FAAFP, MS, is a board certified family physician whose passion for family medicine stems from her desire to empower patients to break the cycle of generational health issues. Through her practice at UT Health East Texas Physicians – Primary Care in Jacksonville, she aims to educate patients of all ages on preventive measures for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, colon cancer, and cardiovascular disease.

A proud Jacksonville native, Dr. Etim obtained her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She furthered her education by earning her Medical Degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and completing her residency in family medicine at E.W. Sparrow Hospital.

As a distinguished member of the medical community, Dr. Etim holds positions as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. In addition, she is actively involved in organizations such as the American Medical Association and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, where she shares her expertise and passion for healthcare.

Her notable accolades extend to Platinum Champion of Diversity in Healthcare, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine’s Outstanding Community Volunteer Faculty Award, and American Medical Association Physician’s Recognition Award.

Dr. Etim’s commitment to education extends beyond patient care; she is devoted to teaching the next generation of physicians. Having served as an assistant professor for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, she now brings her expertise to the University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine, as well as Kenyatta University School of Medicine as an Adjunct Professor.

“I thoroughly enjoy teaching medical students how to transform their science knowledge to problem differentials. I teach them to combine the patient story with the physical exam to minimize ordering tests that increase patient costs.”

Recognizing the importance of community health, Dr. Etim actively engages in community service initiatives. She has been a board member of the Fred Douglass Community Development Coalition in Jacksonville since 2011 and serves as a board member for Pan African Christian Exchange ministries in Kenya, where she advises and teaches at an onsite clinic.
