Meet Latasha Lee, an Inspiring Nurse Leader

Empowering Healthcare Through Experience and Advocacy

Latasha Lee, a highly qualified nurse with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), registered nurse (RN), and public health nurse (PHN) credentials, is making waves in the healthcare community as both a practitioner and a leader. Currently, she serves as the founder and director of the Healthy Helpful Insight Healthcare Institute, where she combines her extensive nursing background with her commitment to community service.

Moreover, she is a proud member of the Minnesota Board of Nursing, having been appointed by the governor, where she advocates for the nursing profession and the improvement of healthcare standards across the state.

Latasha’s journey into nursing was deeply personal. Born with a ventricular septal defect, a small hole in her heart, she was inspired to pursue a career in healthcare at a young age. This passion was further fueled by her sister, Sabrina Mays, who battled lupus. Together, they aspired to become registered nurses and to open a nursing school. Tragically, Sabrina passed away just before Latasha’s graduation in 2008, but her memory continues to inspire Latasha’s work and mission.

With nearly three decades of experience spanning diverse fields, including medical-surgical nursing, oncology, neurology, pediatrics, and nursing management, Latasha is committed to improving healthcare access and quality for all. Her educational background is impressive, with degrees from Richland Community College, Millikin University, and Walden University, where she honed her skills as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Her dedication to continuous learning is further exemplified by her engagement with professional literature such as The American Journal of Nursing, which keeps her informed about the latest advancements in healthcare.

In addition to her board duties, she is an active member of several community organizations. She is a founding member of the Black Nurses Rock Twin Cities chapter, where she works to empower black nurses and improve health outcomes in underserved communities. As a participant in the NAACP Behavior and Wellness committee, she addresses social determinants of health and advocates for equitable healthcare access. Furthermore, Latasha is involved with the Pink Ladies, a local organization promoting cancer awareness, and chairs the Women’s Health Committee for the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority.

Latasha understands the complexities of the healthcare landscape, including the critical need for diversity within the field. As a mother of two, she navigates the dual roles of caregiver and professional, providing her with unique insight into the healthcare needs of families. Her commitment to education and training is evident in her role as an instructor for Master’s students at a local university, where she shares her knowledge and experience with the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Reflecting on her success, she attributes her achievements to her willingness to grow, learn, and be tenacious in the face of adversity. “I’ve always wanted to be in healthcare,” she shares. “The challenges I faced early in life shaped my determination to succeed and to help others who are facing their own battles.”

As she continues to build her legacy through the Healthy Helpful Insight Healthcare Institute, Latasha Lee remains focused on her vision of a healthcare system that is not only accessible but also reflective of the diverse communities it serves. Through her advocacy, leadership, and unwavering commitment to patient care, Latasha is paving the way for future generations of nurses and making a lasting impact in the healthcare field.
