Meet Leah Compas, BS, RT(R): A Highly Experienced Medical Device Professional

Leah’s Career Evolution: A Remarkable Journey in the Medical Imaging and Device Industry

Leah’s professional journey in the medical imaging and device industry is a testament to her dedication and expertise. Starting in July 1991, after earning her board certification in Radiologic Technology from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), she worked as an X-ray technologist in Interventional Radiology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri for 11 years.

In March 2002, Leah transitioned to Missouri Baptist Medical Center, also in St. Louis, where she served as a Cardiovascular Radiologic Technologist in the Cardiac Cath Lab until June 2006. During this period, she also worked per diem as a clinical educator for Abbott Vascular, helping to teach physicians and staff how to use vessel closure devices, and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Arts from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois in 2004.

In July 2006, Leah joined Abbott full time as a Sr. Staff Clinical Advisor in Research & Development, based in Santa Clara, California, and held this position for 12 years. She and her clinical colleagues worked with quality, manufacturing and R&D engineers to bring the end-user perspective to cardiovascular and peripheral vascular devices in development. She educated, lectured internationally, conducted simulated-use design validation testing, and served as the clinical representative for many medical devices which are now commercially available. Her dedication and contributions led her to advance to the role of Principal Clinical Advisor, Clinical Engineering at Abbott Vascular in July 2018, where she continued to showcase her knowledge, dedication to patient safety, and leadership in the industry. Leah worked tirelessly on Abbott’s recently FDA-approved resorbable vascular scaffold, ensuring the product was robust and safe from a performance perspective.

After a successful 16-year stint at Abbott, Leah became the Clinical Evaluation and Safety Manager at Stereotaxis Inc. in St. Louis, Missouri, from October 2022 to February 2024, working in a hybrid capacity. Since February 2024, she has been a Medical Device Clinical Consultant on a full-time basis, working remotely and continuing to apply her skills in the medical device field.

Leah’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the medical field did not stop there. In May 2024, she embarked on a new chapter as a Principal Scientist at SVASTI.ai, leveraging her extensive experience and knowledge in medical devices to make further strides in the industry.

Throughout her career, Leah has demonstrated a passion for advancing healthcare technologies and improving patient outcomes. Her diverse roles and accomplishments reflect her unwavering dedication to the medical imaging and device industry. As Leah Compas continues to make significant contributions in her field, her journey serves as an inspiration to aspiring professionals and a testament to the impact of dedication and expertise in the medical field.
