In practice for over two decades, Dr. House is a highly skilled general surgeon, surgical oncologist, and HPB surgeon in Indianapolis, Indiana. His clinical interests are focused on surgical oncology including the management of primary and secondary hepatic neoplasms, bile duct tumors, benign and malignant diseases of the pancreas, gastric cancer, and sarcoma.

In his official capacity, he offers his services at IU Health Physicians General Surgery – Indiana University Health University Hospital. There, he serves as the Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Program.

Joining the surgical faculty at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2008, Dr. House serves as the Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology within the Department of Surgery. He is also a Professor of Surgery, a principal or co-investigator of eight clinical studies and trials, as well as a council member for the Indiana University School of Medicine CTSI Biorepository.

A 1999 graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. House went on to perform his internship and residency in general surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2006. Furthering his education, he completed his fellowship training in surgical oncology and hepatopancreatobiliary surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 2008 where he served as the Chief Administrative Fellow for the Department of Surgery.  

Before long, he attained board certification in general surgery through the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. 

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the Society of Surgical Oncology (FSSO), Dr. House is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the Association for Academic Surgery, the Central Surgical Association, the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract (Committee Chair), and the Americas Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (Committee Chair). In addition, he is an associate member of the Molecular and Environmental Carcinogenesis Program of the Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center.

The doctor’s research interests include: clinical outcomes research in liver, complex biliary, and pancreatic surgery; clinical investigational trials for neoadjuvant therapy for pancreatic cancer; and translational research studies to develop molecular markers for early pancreatic cancer detection and predictors for chemotherapy responsiveness. He serves on the editorial board for Annal of Surgery, Annals of Surgical Oncology, and the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.  

In recognition of his expertise, Dr. House has received several teaching awards from the Indiana University School of Medicine, including the Trustees Teaching Award (2014-2015, 2017) and the Inspirational Educator Award (2018).
