Dr. McCann is a seasoned general surgeon and surgical critical care specialist practicing at Southeast Idaho Surgical Group in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Dr. McCann received his undergraduate degree, i.e., his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science and Math at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1992.

Subsequent to the completion of his formal training, Dr. McCann attained board certification in general surgery and surgical critical care with the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge. The American Osteopathic Board of Surgery (ABOS) administers primary and subspecialty certification exams, as well as Osteopathic Continuous Certification requirements.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. Surgical critical care is a specialty of surgery and a primary component of general surgery related to the care of patients with acute, life-threatening or potentially life-threatening surgical conditions.

Dr. McCann maintains active professional memberships with the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the American Hernia Society, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
