Get to know dermatologist Dr. Michael Stierstorfer, who serves patients in North Wales, Pennsylvania.
An accomplished dermatologist, Dr. Stierstorfer is the founder of North Wales Dermatology. He strives to provide the highest quality dermatology care in an empathetic, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Having served North Wales and the surrounding region for over 25 years, he specializes in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology with a focus on a wide range of dermatologic conditions. He values the input of his patients in making accurate diagnoses and determining the best plan of care.
In addition to his work in general dermatology, Dr. Stierstorfer has pioneered the discovery that hidden food allergies are often a cause of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Based upon his clinical research, he has developed IBS-80, a series skin patch tests comprising 80 common foods and food additives to identify these allergies. In his studies, when foods identified by the patch testing were removed from the patient’s diet, over half experienced significant improvement or resolution of their IBS symptoms. The testing is now available by prescription for physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants to test their IBS patients.
Dr. Stierstorfer graduated with his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in 1985. He furthered his training with an internship in internal medicine and residency in dermatology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Dedicated to excellence, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD). The ABD is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.
Continuously advancing his professional skills, Dr. Stierstorfer is an active member of the Pennsylvania Dermatological Society, the American Academy of Dermatology (Fellow), the Philadelphia Dermatological Society, and the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
As a Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he has been teaching and supervising skin surgery for dermatology residents in training since 1990.
In addition to having been published in a number of peer-reviewed dermatology journals, Dr. Stierstorfer is the author of the book, You May Not Have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, An Introduction to Allergic Contact Enteritis and the Food Allergies that Cause It.
Having received special recognition throughout his career, his various accolades include: Philadelphia Magazine Top Doctors Award: 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022; Dermatology Clinical Effectiveness Research Network (DCERN); participant in the Major League Baseball Skin Cancer Screening and Awareness Program; University of Pennsylvania Department of Dermatology Attending Teaching Award, 2008; and The Magic Wand Initiative at Massachusetts General Hospital, Guest Panelist, 2022.
