Get to know Pediatric Dentist Dr. Mina Mina, who serves patients in Farmington, Connecticut
Being a compassionate and trusted pediatric dentist, Dr. Mina specializes in the oral health of children. She has the experience and qualifications to care for a child’s teeth, gums, and mouth throughout the various stages of childhood.
In her current affiliation with UConn Health, she serves as Professor and Chair of Pediatric Dentistry within the Department of Craniofacial Sciences, Director of the DMD/PHD Program & Co-Director of the Skeletal, Craniofacial and Oral Biology Training Grant.
“My laboratory is interested in the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate the formation of organs in embryos, their renewal, and regeneration into adulthood. Most of our studies are focused on the initiation and morphogenesis of organs in craniofacial regions, including mandible and teeth. Currently, we also study the origin, maintenance, proliferation, and differentiation of adult stem cells using adult stem cells in dental pulp” expressed Dr. Mina.
Throughout her academic career, she obtained her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree from the National University of Iran. Wanting to further her education, she relocated to the United States.
Once there, she earned her Master of Science in Dental Sciences degree in Craniofacial Biology from Case Western Reserve University and her Doctorate (PhD) degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Connecticut Health Center. As for her training, she served her residency in pediatric dentistry at Case Western Reserve University.
Pediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry dealing with children from birth through adolescence. A pediatric dentist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of the dental problems of children from infancy to young adulthood. They usually care for special needs patients as well.
Among her various awards and honors, Dr. Mina is the recipient of the Board of Directors Faculty Recognition Award from UConn Health, the Distinguished Scientist Award for Craniofacial Biology Research from the International Association for Dental Research, and the Graduate Student Award from the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
