Miriam C. Madden, BSN, RN, cares for our country’s veterans at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital. The VA Hospital is affiliated with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in Bexar County, Texas.
Nurse Madden received her nursing degree from La Escuela de Enfermería Arzobispo Loayza de la Facultad de Enfermería de la UPCH/ Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) in Lima, Peru.
She earned a BS in Nursing from the Universidad Nacional Federico Villarreal (UNFV)/ National University Federico Villareal in San Miguel, Peru in 1985.
With unparalleled experience in her field, Nurse Madden has served as an ICU Staff Nurse and Assistant Charge Nurse with the Peruvian Republic Coats of Arms Ministry of The Navy Surgeon Major Santiago Tavara Navy Medical Center in Lima, Peru (1976-1984); clinical faculty instructor for the Peruvian Republic Coat of Arms Ministry of the Navy Surgeon Felipe M. Rotalde Health Nursing School (1984-1985); Staff Nurse in the Step Down Telemetry Unit at the Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (1988-1990); Staff Nurse in the Telemetry Unit (1990-1993); Staff Nurse and Charge Nurse in the Coronary Unit (1993-2006), and Staff Nurse in the Cardiology Clinic (Heart Station) at South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas (2006-2011).
With 30 years of experience as a staff nurse in ICU/CCU and 5 years staff RN in Cardiology, Ms. Madden is a stand out in her field. She is the recipient of numerous honors and awards including the Nurse Image Maker Award, STTI Honor Society of Nursing, Chair of The American Heart Association Cardiovascular Nursing Committee, RN of The Year for Excellence in Clinical Practice (VA Hospital, 2001), RN of The Month for Excellence in Clinical Practice (September 2001, VA Hospital), Outstanding Achievement Award at the Annual Meeting of the American Heart Association (2002), and Mentor Certification at The Resident Level at The Veterans Health Administration (2009).
She is affiliated with the American Heart Association Cardiovascular Nursing Committee, the San Antonio Cardiovascular Society, and the North American Society for Cardiovascular Imaging.
Miriam Madden also volunteers and supports her community, children’s advocacy groups, her church and most importantly is a proud mother with years of work with the boy scouts and the local schools.
