Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his residency in internal medicine at G. W. Hubbard Hospital/Meharry Medical School in Nashville, Tennessee from November 1989 until December 1993. This was followed by a fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine – Travelers Center on Aging in 1994.
Among his other degrees, he holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Raymond J. Harbert School of Business, Lower Division, a Master of Surgery degree, as well as a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree.
