Born and raised in Louisville, KY, Dr. Harris graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry at the top of his class with numerous awards and recognitions including Omicron Delta Kappa Outstanding Graduating Senior Award, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Award and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society.
In 1988, after completing an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago, Dr. Harris went into private practice with Doctors Niamtu, Alexander and Keeney in Richmond, VA. Dr. Harris earned his board certification in 1990. Over the past 29 years, the practice, now known as Virginia Oral & Facial Surgery has grown into a ten doctor, six office practice where Dr. Harris works out of the Monument office in Richmond.
Dr. Harris frequently provides volunteer care and free oral surgery to patients in Richmond at the Crossover Clinic, the Fan Free Clinic, Donated Dental Services of Virginia and Missions of Mercy. His professional service includes being the past president of the Old Dominion Dental Society and the Virginia Board of Dentistry. He is also an examiner for the Southern Regional Testing Agency. Over the years, Dr. Harris has mentored several students who eventually became dentists and oral surgeons.
Dr. Harris is very grateful for the support of his community and tries to reciprocate often. He typically coordinates the Armstrong High school Young Men of Distinction Mentoring Program. Additionally, he is the Vice President of the Board of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) and is the President of the Board of the Virginia Reperatory Theatre. He is also a board member of the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia and the American Civil War Museum. Aside from oral and maxillofacial surgery, Dr. Harris is passionate about sports, music, education and the arts. He has a vast collection of African and African American art which can be seen around his office.
