Dr. Farr is board certified orthopedic surgeon by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and fellowship trained in spine surgery. Dr Farr has been performing general orthopedic and complex spine surgery in San Jose and Manteca California since 2001.

Dr. Farr currently practices within his private practice, where he is well versed in all aspects of spine surgery, his main emphasis has been endoscopic decompression and fusion and motion preservation surgery. Endoscopic fusion is a technique that allows the surgeon to perform an operation that normally is done via a large midline incision through a small one-inch incision. This allows for significantly less tissue damage and quicker recovery. Dr. Farr is one of few surgeons in the Bay Area that is well versed in this minimally invasive operation.

Dr Farr is extensively involved in development of new technology for minimally invasive spine surgery (MIS). He currently holds several patents including new technology for MIS placement of interbody cages for lumbar fusion, MIS technique for rod introduction for lumbar fusion, a new interspinous spacer that allows a more stable construct. Dr. Farr completed his undergraduate degree with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Cal State San Jose. He then went on to and graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, currently known as AT STILL University of Health Sciences. He then completed an orthopedic surgery residency through the Michigan State University program. Dr. Farr received additional orthopedic surgery training through the William Beaumont Hospital in Detroit, the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, Shrine’s Children Hospital in Pennsylvania, and the University Medical Center in Las Vegas. Furthering his training he completed a spine surgery fellowship at Louisville KY, through a Tulane University Affiliated Program. He completed most of his training at Jewish Hospital, Norton Hospital, and Kosair Children Hospital.

Dr. Farr has served as a clinical assistant professor at Michigan State University and has also served as a clinical faculty member at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Farr completed 8 years military reserve duty with the US Navy Reserve. During recent conflicts, Dr. Farr served one year tour of duty at the US military hospital in Kuwait, where he had chance to provide orthopedic surgery services for injured soldiers.

To stay up to date in his field, Dr. Farr remains a professional member of the North American Spine Society, American college of spine surgery, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery, California Orthopedic Association, American Osteopathic Association, and the California Osteopathic Association.
