With 15+ years of healthcare experience, Dr. Hess has a wealth of knowledge in patient safety and quality care, risk management, and healthcare administration/ She takes pride in her leadership and dedicated team of over 120 clinical professionals at SageWest Health Care. It is her commitment to ensuring the high-quality care of the patients in Fremont County that elevates Dr. Hess among her peers.
Mylissa’s extensive experience and passion for nursing are evident in her impressive track record of developing innovative solutions that enhance patient care. Since joining SageWest Health Care, she has focused on aligning the nursing vision with the organization’s goals and values, ensuring that every patient receives exceptional care. Furthermore, she has successfully managed budgets of the market healthcare system, showcasing her ability to balance financial stewardship with patient-focused initiatives.
In addition to her role at SageWest, Mylissa serves as a Nursing Consultant and preceptor for WGU’s BSN and MSN programs, and Chamberlain’s DNP program. She continues to serve as Lieutenant Commander with a decade of experience as a Critical Care Nurse in the U.S. Navy Reserve. Her military service, which began in March 2015, has allowed her to provide exceptional care in critical care settings, both in the United States and abroad. She annually maintains medical readiness for Sailors and Marines both on Active Duty and as Reservist, while taking pride in her mentorship of junior officers and hospital corpsmen, ensuring their professional development. Notably, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mylissa played a vital role in the Navy Medicine Support Team’s Operation Gotham, delivering ICU care at Coney Island Hospital now known as Health + Hospital: South Brooklyn Health, New York City..
Mylissa’s educational background is equally impressive, with an Associate of Science in Emergency Medical Technology/Technician from Ivy Tech Community College in 2008, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Saint Francis in 2013, and a Master of Science in Nursing in 2017. She culminated her academic achievements with a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, specializing in Executive Leadership, in 2020.
An active member of several professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Organization for Nursing Leadership, the Navy Nurse Corps Association, and the Nurses on Boards Coalition, Mylissa is dedicated to the ongoing advancement of the nursing profession. She attributes her success to the support of her family, as well as the guidance of her role models, mentors, and colleagues throughout her career in nursing.
